Valle
The irrigation ditches, derived from the Torre stream at the dam in Zompitta, have ancient origins and are documented in numerous historical sources. The earliest known document dates back to 1171 and was issued by Patriarch Ulrich II of Treffen.
In reality, the diversion of the ditches is likely even older, possibly dating back to Roman times, as the Via Bariglaria once ran along the Torre — an extension of the Via Julia Augusta towards Noricum.
In Valle lies the point where the Udine irrigation ditch divides into two branches, giving rise to the Palma irrigation ditch. The latter continues towards Rizzolo and then flows through San Bernardo, Godia and Beivars before reaching the city of Palmanova.
