La Farie (Historic Hammer Mill)

Itinerari nel Rojale

In the northern area of the village of Rizzolo, along the Udine canal (roggia di Udine), stands the oldest hammer mill in the area: La Farie Sbuelz, named after the family that has always owned the building.

Isolated from the surrounding houses, the complex consists of two main structures: the taller building used as a residence and the second dedicated to craft activity. The exact date of construction is uncertain, but it is believed to date between the late 17th and early 18th century.

The structure has remained largely intact over time. Originally, the masonry was entirely built with pebbles from the Torre stream, quarry stones and blocks of Pietra Piasentina.

Outside, visitors can observe the hydraulic mechanisms and water diversion works; inside, several original machines are still preserved, carefully maintained by the owning family.
