Verzegnis Red Marble

Itinerari nel Rojale

Vita (Life)

With this work, the artist wished to bring a message of good fortune and blessing from Russia, her homeland. The sculpture represents Sirin, the mythological bird-woman figure, who carries multiple meanings but is often associated with positive qualities, eternal joy and celestial happiness.

Legend also tells us that only a few can see Sirin, because she is swift and difficult to capture — much like human happiness itself.

Drawing upon these concepts, Victoria shaped a large block of red marble portraying the great Sirin, who protects and offers her egg — a symbol of perfection and rebirth.

Present across many cultures — from Russia to Japan, from Peru to India, from Egypt to Finland, from China to Africa — the egg represents primordial origin, the beginning of all things. Knowing the artist’s message, the sculpture invites us to reflect on the importance of dialogue, exchange and connection among cultures.

Sirin is a name drawn from mythology: a bird with a woman’s face, carrying an egg within the hollow of a nest. From this beautiful porphyry-red stone, Victoria has drawn a dream of blessing and well-being.

But beware — like uncovering the secret of a magician, you must look from behind. Try approaching Sirin from the rear: she will reveal imposing plastic masses, the other face of happiness — the restless nocturnal flight of powerful wings.
