Exibition of Cartoccio & vimine and Rojale Showroom

Itinerari nel Rojale

The Permanent Exhibition Cartoccio and Vimine

The Permanent Exhibition Cartoccio and Vimine is located in the former elementary school of Reana, and, along with the Rojale Showcase in Remugnano, represents two exhibition spaces of great importance for the preservation and promotion of scus craftsmanship. The latter has experienced extensive development and significant recognition in the Rojale area in the last century.

The management of these spaces and the preservation of the scus tradition have been entrusted for several years to the ProLoco del Rojale, an organization born with the specific goal of promoting the territory and its peculiarities.

Itinerari nel Rojale

In 1964, the Cooperativa Artigiani Cartocciai Friulani was founded in Reana del Rojale, thanks to the will and commitment of Don Mario Fabrizio.

It all began in response to a challenging economy, marked by a slow recovery after the war events. Ingenuity, abundant raw materials in the territory, and creativity, especially feminine, were the variables that allowed the art of weaving rush to develop and expand even beyond the ocean.

Everyone in the family worked on weaving rush bags, even the children were eager to earn a few bucks and gladly lent a hand.

As the knowledge of this art spread, it was decided, in order to differentiate, to create different objects: clothing accessories, bird nests, nets for San Daniele hams, tableware, and quality artifacts combined with other materials such as leather, fabric, and metal.

There were numerous versions of rush dolls, most depicting the trades of peasant life, and they were also very successful abroad and among emigrants.

In addition to rush, wicker also marked the history of Rojale with baskets, cradles, and other objects created from the skill of weaving passed down through generations.

In the rooms of the permanent market exhibition, over 300 artifacts can be found: an opportunity to learn about and discover the history and modern artistic creations, which can also be purchased at the Rojale Showcase in Remugnano.

The Rojale Showcase celebrated its 10th year of activity in 2023 and is open on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and on Fridays from 15:00 to 18:00, or by appointment for those wishing to purchase unique and exclusive products.

It also periodically hosts art exhibitions by local artists. For information: info@prolocodelrojale.it.
