Pietra Piasentina
A “mobile” of stone
A temple of sun
To lightness
To the source of life.
Where do you fly?
Where are you?
In the circularity of your dreams?

The Artwork
Julia Donata Carraro’s artistic training led her to experiment with various techniques and materials. Sculpture, in particular, allows her to engage with three-dimensionality and large-scale forms.
Her dialogue with stone is especially compelling, as it becomes a test of strength and sensitivity. In Sorgente, matter seems to come alive. Stripped of its weight, the stone appears to stir in the breath of the wind.
The source is one, yet from it arise multiple coexisting facets. Here the artist emphasises how the rational and emotional dimensions coexist — and from their union come evolution, growth and transformation.
The Artist
Julia Donata Carraro was born in Concordia, Argentina, and later moved to Italy, graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata in 1986.
As a sculptor, painter and designer, she has held solo exhibitions in numerous Italian and international cities since 1988. Alongside large-scale works, she also explores the micro dimension of jewellery design.
Since 1990, she has participated in the “Design Gallery” organised by the Goldsmiths’ Promotion Centre during the Vicenza jewellery fairs.
Her jewellery has been featured in various newspapers and magazines, including Vogue Gioiello, L’Orafo Italiano, Eclat International and Joyas y Joyeros (Madrid).
Since 2006, she has held the second chair of Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, where she promotes initiatives aimed at enriching students’ artistic training.
